Independent Multicultural Media Australia, (IMMA) has strengthened its board with the appointment of multicultural leader Dr Hass Dellal AO and media executive Wendy Huang.
The move comes as multicultural media gains increasing recognition as a vital pillar of public interest journalism, particularly for culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
Dr. Dellal brings more than three decades of experience across government, media, and the community sector. He is Chair of the Australian Multicultural Foundation and a former Chair of SBS and the Australian Multicultural Council.
He also led the Commonwealth Government’s Multicultural Framework Review, a landmark report shaping the future of multiculturalism in Australia.
IMMA Secretary Dr. Fotis Kapetopoulos said the appointment would help guide the organisation’s next phase.
“There is no one better to support IMMA’s growth and direction,” Dr. Kapetopoulos said.

Managing Director of Italian media, including Il Globo, La Fiama, Rete Italia and IMMA executive board member, Julius Larobina, said the organisation was “honoured” by the appointment.
“Hass has played a key role in guiding IMMA and ensuring our sector’s voice was heard at a national level,” he said.
Dr. Dellal said stronger support for multicultural media was essential.
“The Review made clear that multicultural media must be better supported and expand beyond traditional mainstream broadcasting,” he said.
“Through that work, we secured more than $10 million in support. I look forward to contributing and seeing these recommendations delivered.”
Wendy Huang, Publisher and Managing Director of The Chinese Herald and head of 1688 Media Group, said she was committed to supporting the sector’s evolution.
“IMMA has grown significantly since its inception, and I’m pleased to continue supporting multicultural media as it adapts to change,” she said.
The appointments strengthen IMMA’s advocacy at both industry and government levels as the sector responds to shifting media consumption and Australia’s growing diversity.
